We all want to find the perfect life partner and experience a long-lasting, happy marriage. We all want to complete half of our Deen, and seek Allah’s rewards and blessings in our marriage. After all, marriage is one of the most beautiful and sacred institutions in Islam.

Allah (Most High) says in the Qur’an:

“And one of His signs is that He has created for you, spouses from amongst yourselves so that you might take comfort in them and He has placed between you, love and mercy. In this there is surely evidence (of the truth) for the people who carefully think.” (Surah 30, Verse 21)

But too often we rush the process of getting married and forget to take into consideration some crucial factors in our decision making process. Factors which, if bypassed, can lead to costly mistakes and potentially years of regret.

We can become blinded by the excitement, and overwhelmed by the confusion, misinformation and lack of practical advice on how to smoothly navigate the process of finding our soul mate.

Sometimes our short-term desires may cloud our thinking and affect our decision making, without truly understanding what makes an individual compatible for us on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

However, by understanding the true purpose of marriage, mastering every step in the process, and correctly defining your personal and spiritual needs, you can cut through the confusion and confidently find the most suitable life partner and be one step closer to a successful life-long marriage that is full of Allah’s blessings.

The Problem with Current Education on Marriage

If the idea of looking for a partner, approaching them, understanding what to do or say, speaking with their family, and making that all-important decision makes you a little anxious, you’re not alone.

Although there are some good Islamic lectures which cover the virtues of marriage, there are very few that provide a practical framework and a step-by-step guide on what things to do, and when to do them.

This, along with misinformation and cultural misguidance, can cause many single Muslims to feel frustrated and be unaware of the basic principles and etiquettes related to marriage.

It’s crucial to learn how to put theory into practice.

Having ideas and strategies are crucial, but nothing is more important than conducting yourself in a way that is pleasing to our creator and thereby, maximising opportunities for the attainment of Allah’s blessings. Without Allah’s blessings any marriage will struggle.

Unfortunately many Muslims do not take the time to learn the the Islamic etiquette of getting married, and more often than not, can find themselves falling into activities which harm them and their marriage.

It Doesn’t Have to be Confusing!

Unfortunately a lot of information out there related to marriage is general and mainly theoretical. While it’s important to understand the virtues and blessings or marriage, what’s commonly missing is a hands-on practical approach for finding the right partner.

This results in a lack of practical understanding and guidance which is catered specifically for a single Muslim living in the 21st century.
